INTRODUCTION ON PERSONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

Hi! I am Sheela George, working with the Gems group of schools, Our Own English High School at Sharjah. I am glad that I joined the Michigan State University, Dubai for a short certificate course on the Use of Instructional Technology in the Classroom. Each class had enriched me with new ideas and new thoughts.
As 21st century has brought changes in the learning and teaching process. It is mandatory for teachers to learn the various uses of technology in the classroom and the direction in which technology is heading. The propagation of technology in educational settings has been primarily driven by a desire to improve modes of instructional approaches and subsequently student learning. The course offered by the University gave me an insight on STAIR design, kiosk presentation, Web2.0, Conducting professional development courses using technology for teachers and parents. By working collaboratively with my team helped me to open my mind to new ideas and gain information on areas which was unknown. The wealth of experience which I had gained through action research and exploring websites and making presentations for teachers gave me a new hope. The course gave an opportunity to relate pedagogy with technology and the content. By reading articles written by eminent authors and their views on implementing technology in classroom teaching has kindled my imagination to frame strategies which can improve student learning.
I am confident that very soon we will have virtual schools, where students and teachers will have to rely on technology heavily. This course has changed my perceptions and understanding on the use of instructional technology in bringing change among teachers and students. This webfolio will give you an insight into my course work .
I am looking forward to take new initiatives in the middle –school and improve on classroom management skills, instructional strategies and assessment techniques.
